Today I want to share with you guys a sweet shop I found in Oklahoma City, that I never knew was there somehow. I know this is an illustration blog, but a lot of my inspiration comes from street fashion, and the stuff in this store was definitely relevant to some of the vintage stuff you see on street style sites!
So, today I was meeting some friends later in the evening. Got finished working, and decided I wanted to try and find some vintage stores for possibly buying someone a Christmas gift. Almost every store I visited was no longer in business. I ended up going to this glass blowing place where this older woman invited me in to sit down and have coffee..I was actually looking for vintage, stumbled upon an art gallery I wanted to visit, it was closed, and the glass blowing place was connected. I felt a little uncomfortable just leaving after she offered me to watch a glass blowing demonstration. Haha. Gotta love Oklahomans.
Anyway, I was driving arouond NW 12th looking for the next store on my list..Ended up driving through the plaza district once again, and finally found this gem of a store.
Bohemian Spirit Vintage is a somewhat hidden treasure, located on 2301 NW 12th Street, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. (Between Penn and Portland I think) I walked in the store, and was instantly overwhelmed (in a really good way.) It was a lot like those vintage shops in Koenji and Ura-Harajuku. I ended up staying forever, and talkingn to the owner and some customer/friends that were there. SUPER nice people, and EXTREMELY helpful. I ended up feeling like I shared my life story with those people! Haha..Mostly because of the fact that I brought up the Japanese vintage stores..And the owner actually said she has had Japanese and French buyers. Its not too much of a suprise to me, because there are so many good items!
The owner, Miss Amy Webster has been collecting vintage for a long time. She has great one of a kind pieces. The store is organized by decade. There are stacks and rows and rows of everything. Not very heavy on the menswear however, but what she had was good, and she promised to have more soon!
I was really excited at the prices too. In Oklahoma, there aren't many people into vintage. Kind of obvious especially to me today after so many of the stores had gone out of business. People here seem to think "if its old clothing, why would I pay a lot of money for it?" To me, vintage can be so much more interesting and creative than something you're going to buy at a suburban shopping mall. But suburban shopping malls are basicall what thrives here. But not to diss Oklahoma..back to the prices. In Tokyo, most of these items would have been probably double or triple the price. Fortunately it was reasonable. I honestly didn't plan on buying anything, and really didn't have the money, as I'm saving up for Tokyo. But, I got two piecs so great, that I actually spent 40.00!! Ha. A great vintage navy and dark green blazer, and the sweetest, coolest harem pants from Morocco. I was REALLY excited about those. Especially for 20 bucks, but I don't know if I would have bought them any more. (THANK YOU MISS WEBSTER IF YOU ARE READING THIS!!)
Anyway, I totally wanna hype this store up. If you're local, be sure and check it out. Support something differet, and vintage in OKC. Really cool stuff! I hope you like the pics, I'm sorry they're so blurry, my flash wasn't working..My batteries had been previously in my Wii-mote playing New Super Mario bros Wii, so yea...They were totally dying.
